Creating economic opportunity for rural subsistence farmers through education in organic farming and financial management, as well as technical training and financial support, enabling them to produce ethical, organic herbs, spices, and superfoods of the highest organic standards, nutritional value, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility.
The Healing Herbs Project believes in food the way nature intended it – free from pesticides, GMOs, additives and chemicals. It supports traditional farming practices that regenerate the soil and the surrounding environment, maintaining the purity of rivers, forests, and agricultural lands. The Project recognises what a important responsibility farmers have – they literally feed the world. It believes that farmers who give us our sustenance likewise deserve a dignified life, food security, and an economic livelihood to provide for their families.
The Healing Herbs Project aspires to a global food system that is fair, transparent, and sustainable to all life. It invites all to join the global family of conscious consumers who are creating a new paradigm in food – a future that embraces ancient wisdom, respects farmers, and preserves the environment.
The Mission of the Healing Herbs Project is to create economic opportunity for rural farmers through ethical, organic agriculture. Creating jobs for subsistence farmers allows them to remain at home in their villages instead of being forced to search for sometimes dangerous work abroad. This helps keep families together, preserves local farming traditions, and creates a supply of high-quality organic herbs, spices, and superfoods for conscious consumers. Beyond even the high principles of Fair Trade, profits are shared with partner farmers, access to education is improved, technical training is provided to community groups, and food security for vulnerable families is secured. In addition, Healing Herbs provides education on organic farming and financial management, as well as holistic wellness programmes to its partner farmers.
The mission is to create value for both farmers and organic food enthusiasts. Apart from being delicious, a product with the Healing Herbs label guarantees that it has been produced to the highest organic standards, nutritional quality, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility – food that is pure, nutritious, and equitable!
In addition:
- Healing Herbs provides guidance for creating grower groups and financial support to reduce the costs of organic certification.
- Women for Human Rights (WHR) provides support for widows and abandoned mothers who face deeply embedded discrimination and marginalisation in Nepal.
- The Kanchenjunga Tea Cooperative (KTE) improves the standard of living for farmers in the remote villages of Eastern Nepal without exploiting or disturbing nature.
In Eastern Nepal, Healing Herbs has certified four additional community forests, creating seasonal jobs in each location for 20 to 30 local residents. This is a new model where the funding provided adds value to the fruit and herbs the villagers harvest, and where the guarantee of a fair trade market gives villagers confidence to engage dynamically in sustainable fruit and herb collection.
The above represents Healing Herbs’ launch program in Nepal. As it grows, it will expand operations not only in Nepal but also in India, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Turkey, and beyond. It is in the process of gathering a global family of farmers dedicated to preserving and strengthening the dignity and security that food growers deserve. Furthermore, the Healing Herbs Initiative provides consumers with a channel through which they can contribute to the global effort to restore sustainability, transparency, and equality in the global food system at the same time improving quality of life in the far corners of our world, fulfilling the idea of the sublime expression: “The world is our family!”
